We're here so you can go!
Our current kennel setup consists of 15 large indoor/outdoor runs that are divided into five pods. Each pod is in a separate room with its own air intake, heating and cooling unit, and ceiling fan. Our rates are $38 per dog or $60 for two dogs sharing a run. We also have a secure fenced area for play time! Coming soon in 2024: Our onsite hiking trail!
Meet the owners!
Sara Dodson and Nikola Rubley have been working with animals for years and are bringing that experience to the dog boarding industry!
Sara Dodson's love of animals and their welfare has guided her development and skills in veterinary medicine and animal care for many years. She has worked for animal shelters, local veterinary offices, and rescues providing medical support as well as snuggles to countless animals. She started her profession in animal care at The Animal Protection Society of Durham as a cat technician and knew immediately that her life's work would be in animal care. She has almost two decades of experience in veterinary medicine, including emergency care, hospice and palliative support, as well as shelter/rescue medicine. Throughout her different jobs, her goal has always been to make sure that each animal is treated with care, dignity, and love. These core values are the foundation of The Sunshine Spot. She hopes to provide you with quality care for your beloved family members for years and years to come.
Nikola started her career with animals at Alaska Vet Clinic, first as a kennel tech and then as a vet assistant. In Anchorage she also began participating in the dog sport of Flyball in 2012. After leaving Alaska to return to NC she began her time at Sarge's Animal Rescue where she spent eight years taking care of the homeless animals of Haywood County. She learned even more while employed at a local vet clinic from 2016 to 2021 where she cared for critical patients overnight in the emergency department. Now she looks forward to using all of these skills to help your pet have the home away from home experience they deserve. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her dogs and her emotional support human, Travis. She also loves to travel, hike, and see new and amazing things.
